I Love Miss Earlene! and “I LOVE THAT GIRL!”

January 26, 2011

I am thrilled and excited about my upcoming episode on the new Martin Lawrence sitcom, “Love That Girl!,” starring Tatyana Ali. I play Miss Earlene, Tyana’s zany Godmother, who shows up on her doorstep by surprise—and has a few surprises herself. I not only had a ball playing this comedic role, I got to work with some of the same talented writers and producers who created other wonderful characters for me, from the vivacious vixen Vivica Shaw on “Sister, Sister,” to Bonita Walters of “40/40” on Bentley Evans’ “Jamie Foxx Show.”

Life is truly circular!

Here’s more about this exciting project….

In 1994, I spent this weekend getting ready for the Monday, January 17th premier of my new internationally syndicated talk show, “Rolonda!” Our big launch also fell on MLK Day back then—the first show - gun control. But we were pre-empted by the huge Northridge, Earthquake. Heck - We knew we would shake the earth! Today, I still thank each and every one of you who watched “Rolonda!” for four successful seasons! Here are some of our best moments! Enjoy!

“The Story of 2011 - Blindfaith and Caring”

January 05, 2011

This story touched my heart so much. It proves what faith and caring can do. I cried like a baby when I watched Thomas Williams CBS interview this morning. The homeless man with the golden voice had some good news to report! We have a lot to learn from Thomas. Everyone deserves a second chance. Are you holding strong to a passionate faith in yourself today?

“Teen Sex at Home???”

December 28, 2010

Would you let your teenager have sex at home? You might be shocked at the number of teens having sex while their parents are away - some in their parents’ bed! But where do you draw the line? On one-hand, parents may have more knowledge and control over their kid’s sexual encounters—but, then again, those parents might also be sending the wrong message. I will never forget the day some Mothers battled it out on my stage from very opposing sides. Take a look in this episode of “RETRO RO!” Tell me how you feel after watching this clip…

“Rolonda Anchors WABC Eyewitness News - 1988”

December 28, 2010

Remember back in the day when I sat on the anchor desk and investigated news for WABC-TV. I loved that job, beating the streets of NYC, covering murder, mobs and mayhem. Being in the news business is a tough occupation, but one that certainly prepared me for so many other opportunities. Listen to the news we were reporting in 1988!

Happy Birthday, Dr. King and the “Rolonda” Show!

January 21, 2010

Not only did I recently celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., I also celebrated the birthday of the first “Rolonda” Show, which launched on January 18, 1994. (It was supposed to have launched on the 17th, but was pre-empted nationwide by the Northridge, CA earthquake coverage.) Being part-owner, host and Supervising Producer of my own internationally syndicated TV talk show, produced by my Watts Works Productions and King World, was one of the greatest experiences of my life. Dr. King’s lessons rang in my ear the day a KKK leader used the “N” word on my talk show…

Rolonda Show

January 12, 2010

When we launched The Rolonda Show in January of 1994, I came onto the talk show scene midseason and there were dozens of talkers already on TV. We had to do something to burst through the crowd. King World’s brilliant promo department came up with this crowd pleaser. It remains by favorite promo of all time.
